Cuban Picadillo

This is the first time I have made picadillo, ever! It wasn’t very difficult, but I did find some areas I could definitely improve on. For example, I would have definitely liked to add chopped jalapeños for a little bite 🌶 they always give it that extra kick of lovin’ at the end of every taste.

Ingredients :

  • 1 chopped yellow onion
  • 2 lbs ground meat of any kind (I made this with ground chicken)
  • 1 tomato
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 bell pepper
  • 4 oz tomato sauce
  • 3 tbsp chopped cilantro
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 cup jasmine rice
  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions :

  1. Brown meat in large sauté pan and season with salt and pepper
  2. Cook rice according to package
  3. While the meat and rice are cooking, chop tomato, onion, garlic, bell pepper, jalapeño and cilantro
  4. When meat is browned, add veggies to meat and combine well
  5. Add tomato sauce and cook, covered, for about 15-20 minutes
  6. Serve on top of the jasmine rice 🍚
